Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding
This surgery involves placing a band around the stomach’s upper part. It is adjustable and has an inflatable balloon in it. This band makes the stomach opening very narrow. On the abdomen, the surgeon will put a port that allows fluid to go through it. This is how the band is adjusted. This allows patients and their doctors to essentially customize how much a patient may be able to eat. It does not reduce nutrient or calorie absorption, but it does decrease how much food the stomach is able to accommodate.
