Although this is a developing story, here are the facts so far about this recall:
- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has found that ranitidine may contain a carcinogen (a cancer-causing chemical). This medication is also known as Zantac.
- The carcinogen is N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) and it has previously been found in some blood pressure medications.
- The FDA is still investigating the levels of the carcinogen in ranitidine.
- In the meantime, some drug manufacturers have recalled their ranitidine products.
